Two days ago my 13 year old nephew was crossing a busy street on Long Island with his friend.
A car was coming, which my nephew noticed and thus he quickened his step; he heard a thump behind him, turned and saw his buddy 7 feet up in the air. He was pummeled by the oncoming car.
So what happened? I don't know. It was dark and the driver probably didn't see the kids - and obviously they shouldn't have been crossing at that moment.
But supposedly there was a cell phone involved. The poor kid was either talking on his cell phone, or he received a call and stopped to answer it.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where they found bleeding or something in the brain that had to be relieved. How's he going to turn out, as far as long term damage? They don't know. As they say, *the next few days are critical*.
Still, an astounding 770 Americans die each week in car *accidents* - AND that's not even counting people like this young man who are critically injured.
So while our lives are genuinely imperiled every time go we near a road, most Americans instead focus their worst fears on *climate change* or Muslim cave-dwellers...
