Stump The Homeschooler?

Did any of y'all see Stump The Schwab when it was on ESPN?

There was some fat tool who memorized every worthless bit of sports trivia...

And contestants would come on the show and try to out-answer him. They never did.

Anyways, my son takes CCD (religious ed) at our church each week. It's *First Communion* this year.

While my son has much interaction with local age-mates, most of it occurs in non-intelletual, non-academic settings - save for CCD.

A few weeks ago my son told me that *they* are always trying to stump him with *hard questions*.

CaptiousNut - Who? The teacher?

Prince - Yeah.

CaptiousNut - Why?

Prince - Because I always give the right answers.

CaptiousNut - How are they trying to 'stump' you?

Prince - They try to ask me really difficult questions....But I still always get them all right.

Apparently the first week they asked him what sign Noah was given by God as promise that he'd never flood the earth again(?).

Ans. - A rainbow.

Last week they asked him what *fasting* was.

Prince - I knew what it was from BrainPop(.com)....I think it's a Muslim thing.

There was another question that was basic biographical information about Jesus.

And believe me, although I myself have read the Bible cover-to-cover and still read it regularly...

It's my wife who has covered this subject with him but really only on a superficial level. The kid is quite frankly a sponge, with a photographic memory to boot.

So it's not at all hard to stand out against age-mates.

so he is going to do spelling-bee ?

we need to give homeschoolers publicity as much as possible. Hopefully that helps the cause.

I would indeed like to get him started on some intensive *vocab* work.

And the spelling bee might be the vehicle...
