although it was meant to be funny, it actually is the truth with regard to the field of economics in academia. it's a shame.
I punched up that guy's website to see what he was all about.
Unfortunately, it seems that he was just trying to be funny. In other words, he wasn't seriously debunking the subject that he's received a PhD in.
Apparently all he's serious about is "renewable energy" - which I personally find hilarious.
Too often comedy is a veil for vacuity: Letterman, Leno, Colbert, Jon Stewart, etc.
Though, I doubt Mankiw thinks it's funny.
