Nearly two years ago, I wrote:

Point of fact, we were up in Hull [Massachusetts] a couple of weeks ago and the wind was howling. It had to be at least 25 mph. I looked up and noticed the windmill wasn't twirling. Then, twenty minutes later, I noticed that it was *working* - rather rapidly at that.

I said to my wife, "They must have plugged it back in!"

Biofuel - A 2% Trojan Horse

Mass. Heating Oil Dealers Starting to Supply Biofuel Blends:

As we reported August 21, a recent Massachusetts law requires that biofuel be mixed into home heating oil. Under the Clean Energy Biofuels Act, Massachusetts home heating oil and diesel fuel must contain 2 percent biofuel starting July 2010. The percent of biofuel then rises, with a target of 5 percent in 2013.

In addition to potentially lowering the carbon footprint of home heating, the biofuel component also contains no sulphur, reducing the overall sulphur content of the blended fuel. This means the fuel burns cleaner and more efficiently, reducing maintenance and cleaning costs. In the future, it may also allow heating systems to be built less expensively, since the cleaner fuel puts less stress on them.

Question marks remain, though. The EPA has not yet determined the greenhouse gas emissions of the renewable fuel, leaving it unclear just how much—or how little—biofuel blends will reduce emissions. It’s also unclear whether or not the mandate will be successfully met, since at present the state lacks the infrastructure to supply and blend sufficient quantities of biofuel. For heating oil consumers, the cost to blend in the biofuel raises the price of home heating oil fractionally—possibly by as little as $0.005 (half a cent) per gallon, but it’s still a cost.

Okay.

The state *lacks the infrastructure....to blend sufficient quantities of biofuel* and yet, somehow, it only adds half a penny in per gallon costs?

I smell BS.

And, let me just say that I'm not waiting with bated breath for the EPA's *scientific* report on biofuel emissions....

With eco-pagans regnant in Washington....there seems to be no stopping *green* boondoggles like taxpayer-subsidized monuments to Mother Nature, aka wind turbines.

Some guy today told me there a a huge windfarm in Palm Springs, California that routinely was only running at one third of its capacity. Why?....supposedly on account of prohibitively high maintenance costs.

I googled this a bit but came up with nothing in the way of operating performance and/or criticism. I would welcome any help on this subject as I'm sure the info I am looking for is out there.

Everyone's getting a *bailout* these days so why not General Motors?

That just has to be befuddling company executives AND union representatives.

Last week, while simultaneously begging for a government handout, GM's mouthpiece said:

"We believe the US is probably in the trough of its downturn right now," he said.

At the bottom? Okay. Then why do they need a handout?

And today, a GM executive was out warning - The Next 100 Days Are Critical For GM/Auto Industry.

Let's just assume that *trough* comment was, well, unintentional.

It is telling, however, the glaring lack of political will to prop up Big Auto.

Apparently they have fallen out of favor with the *powers-at-be*.

Could it be because they burn oil?

Or could it be because farsighted union bosses are discounting their ultimate demise?

Unions are really all about public sector employees these days - their *growing* demographic.

Seriously, if Big Auto can't get a piece of this bailout boondoggle then its unionized workers are fools to keep on subsidizing Big Government, Big Education, Big Medicine, Big Alternaive Energy, and all of the other pet causes of the statists.

So who was the biggest winner on Beacon Hill this session: Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick? House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi? Gay marriage activists?

Guess again.

Tally up the crush of bills passed during the Legislature's 19-month formal session and it's hard to find a politician or interest group with bigger bragging rights than environmentalists.

From ocean management to global warming, "green jobs" to clean energy, the environmental lobby racked up win after win at the Statehouse, helped along by a sympathetic governor, powerful House speaker and worries about soaring energy prices and the state's iffy economy.

Activists hope the successes not only burnish the state's reputation as a green leader, but pay long-term dividends, from preserving open spaces to reversing the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

"It's been the greatest session in recent history," said Jennifer Ryan, Mass. Audubon's Legislative Director.
