Race-Baiting, Still In Vogue

Hmmm...

I sincerely doubt that study counted the $72 billion that taxpayers and future generations sent over to Fannie Mae in 2009! (Then there's Freddie Mac, FHA, food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc.)

The AP ought to be ashamed of itself for printing such garbage.

Attacking Sedentary Living

From straws to ice to this - one post leads to another...

Yep, that's in fact an erect chick urinating.

Check out the product. It's marketed as *easing the call of nature* when outdoors. I just ordered one each for my wife and daughter!

The other day, my 3.72 year old daughter asked to go to a particular park. It was warm out so we'd figure to be out for a while. I warned her that there was *no bathroom* at that park.

Princess C-Nut - I'll just do a pop-a-squat.

Now I'm pretty advanced as far as being a modern father is concerned.

But I still struggle mightily with a couple things that necessitate *Mom*; I can't for the life of me do *pigtails*; and I'm not so good at aiding a 3 year old's uneventful pop-a-squat.

Google Target Practice

I was googling for straws the other day and noticed the above search suggestions.

Number 2 caught my eye and piqued my curiosity.

After three hours of research, here's the best answer I found:

The melting ice acts as a slow, continuous flush.

Ice cools the air around the urinal. Cool air sinks, which serves to contain the smell.

Cold discourages drain flies.

Fun to melt, helps users aim better, compensates for poor male sanitary habits.

Hah!

Imagine if that hypothesis is correct, that urinal ice's prime function is a sanitary one. If an unwitting game of *pee target practice* really keeps the floors clear(er)....then human males might even be more pathetic than anyone had previously thought!

Many women have rarely, if ever, been in a men's comfort station - so they don't know how nasty the floor is, how poor and indifferent aimers men, aged 3-93, really are.

So I'll let Paulie Walnuts colorfully elaborate; and he does in fact address the ice: (WARNING: adult language )

The Last Straw

What is it with restaurants and *straws*?

I mean, no one drinks with straws at home, so why does everyone need them when eating out?

I don't know about y'all, but I feel stupid drinking with one...

Cherrypicking Bogeymen

Three cheers for the NYT!

I say *Thank God for the New York Times* and their muck-raking. It's about time someone took on those depraved Scientologists. Anyone who's been paying attention knows that these people, with all their vast political power, are what's been bringing our great nation down.

Hopefully the Times will expand this great series and tackle the *abuse* of other, albeit LESSER, cults - like the statists and eco-pagans...

No System, No Marketplace, No Clue

Check out this blithering Moron:

In 2005, former Assistant Secretary of Education Diane Ravitch wrote, "We should thank President George W. Bush and Congress for passing the No Child Left Behind Act ... All this attention and focus is paying off for younger students, who are reading and solving mathematics problems better than their parents' generation."

Four years later, Ravitch has changed her mind.

"I was known as a conservative advocate of many of these policies," Ravitch says. "But I've looked at the evidence and I've concluded they're wrong. They've put us on the wrong track. I feel passionately about the improvement of public education and I don't think any of this is going to improve public education."

She says one of her biggest concerns is the way the law requires school districts to use standardized testing.

Emphasis On Test Scores Led To Cheating, Dishonesty

"The basic strategy is measuring and punishing," Ravitch says of No Child Left Behind. "And it turns out as a result of putting so much emphasis on the test scores, there's a lot of cheating going on, there's a lot of gaming the system. Instead of raising standards it's actually lowered standards because many states have 'dumbed down' their tests or changed the scoring of their tests to say that more kids are passing than actually are."

Some states contend that 80 to 90 percent of their children are proficient readers and have math proficiency as well, Ravitch notes. But in the same states, only 25 to 30 of the children test at a proficient level on national tests such as the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Okay. She pushed the Federal standardization that is NCLB, realized it was a mistake, and is sort of repenting.

I certainly agree that it was a disaster in principle and in application.

But here's where the Moron manifests:

'There Should Not Be An Education Marketplace'

Part of the reason schools were so intent on achieving high tests scores was because they were competing with other schools for resources, which were often doled out on that basis alone.

Ravitch is critical of the impact this had on schools.

"There should not be an education marketplace, there should not be competition," Ravitch says. "Schools operate fundamentally — or should operate — like families. The fundamental principle by which education proceeds is collaboration. Teachers are supposed to share what works; schools are supposed to get together and talk about what's [been successful] for them. They're not supposed to hide their trade secrets and have a survival of the fittest competition with the school down the block."

Say what?

So she's, now anyway, against Federal standards/testing/funding(?) but also against an *education marketplace*?

Honey, it's either one system or an open COMPETITIVE marketplace. It can't be both and it can't be neither!

Though, in fairness, I think she's confusing differing objects of competition. It was the schools as political entities that were competing for Federal funds and Federal approval in the old system.

She's probably still very much FOR the continued, wasteful and ineffective, Federal subsidization of *schools*....she just doesn't want individual states and towns to be held accountable for their results. She wants blank checks. That's what George Bush was ham-handedly trying to attack in the first place. Unfortunately he hadn't the wisdom, imagination, or stones to kick education completely back to the States.

I don't know why, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but when I hear high-level bureaucrats like this Ravitch utter such complete nonsense my blood boils over. I'd like to punch her in the face! (kidding)

No earrings on this broad - read into that what you will. But there are most certainly several other holes in her dome.

(Recall that No Child Left Behind was authored by Ted Kennedy and had more Democrats supporting it than Republicans! See - prior post.)

Warding Off The Grim Reaper

Here's an interesting article/video on extremely healthy 'old coots'.

Hint: no color TV, regular exercise, less meat, and some spirituality.

Uncovering Secrets To A Longer Life

Scatology, Defined

Contemplate for a moment the thought process behind that do...

I was just thinking how much *poopy* material there is out there - how universal and bleoved a subject defecation is.

I was thinking they're really ought to be a *poop blog*. So I googled for one and came up with almost nothing (constipated!).

Now there's a $1 million dollar business idea if I ever smelt one!

I have one poopy friend in particular who could supply an hilarious, marketable, auto-biographical anecdote every few days.

See - One More Crudity From NH - for an example.

Silent Beauty

That's songwriter and American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi.

Never before in my 35 year life have I seen a woman whose *coefficient of attractiveness* drops so severely when she merely opens her trap.

On mute, she's a near goddess....but with sound, she comes off as, well, a well-cast participant of Jersey Shore.

I mean it, she's a real potty-mouthed, trampy sort of b1tch!

Even though I'm more into *personality* than most, I submit that it's stupendous for a ANY WOMAN's coefficient to drop so much - in the eyes of infinitely superficial men that is.

Moronic Musicians

Not long ago, my wife called up some music teacher inquiring about piano lessons for our son.

They said....the kid has to be 6.

And then a week or so ago, I heard another parent of a 5 year old lamenting the same. She said that she too had contacted an instructor who also *age discriminated* against her child.

Okay. How freakin' dumb are these *teachers*???!!!

If the parents want to pay, what do you care if they kids are a little young?

Furthermore, if they get a student when they are young and everything works out....conceivably they could be teaching them AND EARNING COIN for the next 10 years or so.

Who out there in this economy is doing so well that they can stiff-arm potential multi-year revenue streams?

Marginalizing Philosophy

I had a funny conversation with my niece, a college freshman, the other day.

Talking about which courses she's taken, done well in this year, etc...

She enrolled in a philosophy class first semester and found it *stupid*. Hah! I say join the club; we all did the same back in our day and came to the very same conclusion.

I feel like every freshman enthusiastically takes a philosophy course - because it's not offered in high school but more so because it sounds soooo exalted.

I myself have vivid memories of falling completely asleep in my freshman *human nature* seminar. And I wasn't in the back of the class....I was drooling on the square table that the class was seated around. It was 2.5 hours of pure insipid agony!

Similar to the philosophy trap I would have to put *psychology* - a class I think she also took. Innumerable college freshman get sucked into a course on that useless nonsense for probably the same reasons - because the subject sounds like it can explain soooo much.

I steered my niece, who's proficient at math and science, towards economics. I told her it combines logic and math with psychology and philosophy - AND it's grounded in the real world. (Though I forgot to warn her against the sophistry masquerading as *macroeconomics*...)

Wash My Mouth Out With Soap?

Now I'm going to post a link to something here that is very crass.

Attention - All you women out there....DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK. That goes especially for my female relatives. But it also applies to anyone who esteems me higher than a creep, an a$$hole, a Moron, a hypocrite, a loser, a pervert, etc.

I was searching for a forehead sweat pic for a post earlier today when I came across the crass image that I'll link to below.

For kicks, I emailed it out to the LCD of my contact list. When I tell you that I got a 100% rapid-fire response from all of them, I'm not exaggerating a little bit.

I haven't received such insta-feedback since I sent out that crazy pic of my wife's pregnant belly some 5.5 years ago. Of course, that pic of my son's foot in utero traveled the world in light-speed - making him famous even before he was a five year old blogging and mastering algebra.

I don't know what potential this link has in that regard. Perhaps it's just fodder for the LCD and my GutterBuddies.

THE LINK....that I'm not morally responsible for in any way, shape, or form.

Surprise, surprise, WestCoastTom asked me where he could buy a couple dozen.

Again, anyone who clicks on that link and chastises me for posting it will then be targeted for personal Marginalization (and that means you, beloved MIL, you know darn well how much content I'm sitting on!).

Pre-School - Expensive AND Injurious

Two days per week, my 3.72 year old daughter attends preschool at a local community center, for 2.5 hours time. It's cheap and it's close. I consider it nothing more than convenient babysitting.

But no longer. The State of Massachusetts just stepped in and declared it *unregistered* or *unlicensed*. Thus, this particular program can only offer 6 days of classes per month, henceforth.

Now I've never been overly fond of daycare or pre-school, and 6 days per month is plenty for me. Getting ready, dropping off, and picking her up from pre-non-school kills the momentum of my day. I was elated when my son stopped going last year. And I'm very much looking forward to the Princess' last days. This way I can get the kids into a more efficient and regular homeschooling routine.

Getting back to the BS licensing issue...

While it represents a clearly unwarranted, illiberal meddling in the affairs of individuals, there's the consequence that all the regulations end up *taxing* away preschools. And THAT is a good thing indeed!

Side Note - Recently I was talking to a local *mom*, an acquaintance. She told me that she was a *big believer* in preschool, *lots of preschool* in fact. I asked her if she researched this belief. No answer. I informed her that children who are heavily daycared have half the vocabulary of 5 year olds who weren't. I told her, I had plenty of material on this subject I could send her.

CaptiousNut - Are you interested?

LocalMom - Nope.

CaptiousNut - You don't even want to take a look at it?

LocalMom - Nope. I'm not interested. I'm a big believer in preschool.

And there you have it folks, a circular self-fulfilling argument against Moronic parents (products of Big Education) teaching their own!

I just can't tell you how many times I've endured this same tragic conversation. The first 50 times, I was really trying to be helpful. But now I'm jaded by the .000 batting average. Now I just provoke for my own self-amusement.

Interrogating Clumsy Morons

First visit - Learn How To Turn A Phone Off!

So, I met up with that *individual* last weekend. Over email, he had been denying that the voice that sounds like his chatty broad and the voice that sounds like him, that I recorded on a phone call TO HIM....he was insisting that it must have been *someone else*. His defense was bull-poopy all-around; he even insisted that he had *lost his phone in Guatemala* - although the participants in South America spoke perfect, albeit gutter, English.

Anyways, I confronted him in person, in mixed company to boot.

Instantly, amidst further weak-a$$ denials, his forehead started oozing and dripping with sweat! It was a hilarious sight to behold, like nothing I've ever seen before.

From 401k To 201k To 001k

So, politicians and Wall Street are conspiring to raid 401k's, the really big ones anyway. That is what I took away from this article:

Class Warfare's Next Target: 401(k) Savings

This is precisely the type of stuff that would get me really riled up in the past. But now I know better. I fully expect Big Government to rob me hand over fist. I've realized that fiat currency is a political commodity in the first place. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, right?

Instead, non-Morons ought to be amassing the unconfiscatable: spiritual wealth, family, friends, and goodwill.

I'm in no way condoning the theft and illiberality of politicians. I'm just just trying to diminish the expectations of the soon-to-be-really-pissed-off.

If The World Turned Slowly...

The following video demonstrates some new high-speed camera:

SprintCam v3 NAB 2009 showreel from David Coiffier on Vimeo.

I'm not much of a photo geek, but I would like to figure out how I can see my golf swing slowed down and analyzed with such a tool.

Gladiators Die Young

Yet another ex-NFL player dies *young*...

Every time I hear news like this I am reminded of what my therapist (physical!) in Brooklyn told me some 6 years ago.

He said that these pro athletes, most especially American football players, that their *insides* are a mess. He said they down so many anti-inflammatories throughout their career - to speed back from injury - that it all but guarantees an early death.

What a shame....because most of them leave large broods behind!

May the echoes of the Coliseum warm their buried bones...

Monthly Folder-Cleaning Pic Dump

Here's some eye candy for you illiterate Morons - stuff that I collected but never made it into blog posts. As always, click any pic to enlarge it.

That last one, for those of you unaware, is a reference to Dungeons & Dragons - a role playing game for uncool, pimple-faced, teenagers in the 1980s.

Government Schools Are Racist

Check out the worst performing Massachusetts government schools.

For those of you unfamiliar with the demographics of this horrible state, all of those schools serve *minority neighborhoods*.

Not "Pathetic"?

Recall that golfer Tiger Woods is currently embroiled in a *serial infidelity situation* with his wife/nanny.

His college girlfriend, of over a decade ago, felt inclined to defend the hound. All I can say is....that this whole thing was freakin' WEIRD.

Tiger Woods was my boyfriend for a year and a half while we were both undergraduates at Stanford. I've never spoken to the press about him; I'm not coming forward now for money or to advance any pathetic showbiz aspirations, but merely to stick up for a friend....He was so human and cared so much about other people and the world around him. This may surprise some people, but Tiger was a great boyfriend.

Our relationship ended when Tiger turned pro after his sophomore year. Becoming the first person in my family to earn a college degree was so important to me that I wasn’t willing to give up my studies to follow him. Like everyone else, I was shocked by the revelations about his infidelities. The Tiger I knew was loyal, devoted and self-?controlled. I’m not naive, but I can say with certainty that he was faithful during the time we dated. The speculation that he's being treated for sex addiction is surprising because we enjoyed a normal sexual relationship.

A what?

A *normal sexual relationship*???

Who talks about their college relationships like that?

I mean, who among us won't admit to being a *stupid kid* back in those days.

This dingbat broad can *say with certainty* that Tiger was faithful to her?

Yeah, ask any girlfriend or wife on the planet, most of them are likewise certain they aren't being cheated on either. Extending her logic, MEN ARE MONOGAMOUS the world over!

I'm not doing a good job here explaining what's so off with this article, this admission. Somebody help me out.

Of course Eldrick wasn't exactly a stud in college either. Golfers hardly have groupies until they make some cash on the PGA Tour. By all accounts, Tiger was an adolescent dork - as most prodigy golf kids are. It's really a game for mature men.

More evidence that Tiger was a collegiate geek is....well, the fact that he dated this dippy, unsightly broad in the first place! Today, after Tiger's a centi-millionaire, she wouldn't have a chance with him next to the p0rn stars and high-end call girls that he connects with.

It's either that, that Tiger dated now *advocate for Native American causes* because he was a loser and had limited options back in the day...

Or, any second now 5 other co-eds from Stanford are going to come out and claim they were diddling Tiger while he was *faithful* to Irene Folstrom!

And how darn funny would that be?!

My last couple of Tiger posts:

Moralizing From Hypocrisy Island

Win Some, Lose Some

The Merits Of Barefoot Propaganda

From the Boston Globe:

We were born to run, but maybe not with shoes.

New research led by Harvard scientists shows that people who run barefoot or with minimal shoes -- as people have done for millions of years -- often land on their feet in a way that avoids a jarring impact.

Bare feet slamming down on all kinds of terrain without cushioned soles or arch support may seem like it would be hard on the body. But the new work, published online today in the scientific journal Nature, finds that the way the majority of people run in shoes -- striking heel first -- is not gentle at all.

"It's as if every time you land on the ground, someone hits you on the heel with a hammer," said Daniel E. Lieberman, a professor of human evolutionary biology at Harvard University, who studies the biomechanics of running in the lab -- and himself runs with minimal or no shoes. "It's an amazing thing. Running barefoot can be less impactful."

Instead of striking heel-first, barefoot runners tend to land on the ball or middle of their foot. Researchers need to do followup studies to test whether less impact translates into fewer injuries, but the new finding may become yet another example of the way in which evolution has made humans ill-equipped to handle some of the luxuries of modern life. Millions of years of evolution created humans best adapted to an environment lacking recent inventions such as desk jobs, video games, abundant processed foods, and -- perhaps -- the modern running shoe.

Really?

*Evolution* created a species that can't survive sedentary living? That can't survive sneakers and Crocs? People who wear expensive footwear don't reproduce as much? Is this the implication?

And how does evolution *create* in the first place? I thought it was a process of development and not an *author*?

Never mind. That's not the subject for this post.

How about that guy above - running near bare-foot in the Boston winter?

Although, the socks are probably gore-tex or something. The story here is *no shoes*.

Now I had never in my life thought much about wearing shoes - about whether or not footwear induced negative side effects until my blog was attacked by a barefoot brigade this past summer in - Is Your Brood Shod?.

But I've been thinking some more on the issue.

You see, while I have a pretty messed up back (1999 car accident, TOS) I also have some banged up knees. Even as a very active child I was told by some orthopedist in 1984, when I was 10, that I had *60 year old* knees. I thought this guy was a jurassic quack; but he insisted I was going to suffer long term problems - something about the cartilage under the knee cap grating when it slid it. Great. Thanks. He told me *no sports* for 6 months, and to do leg raises. I followed this Moron's prescription to no avail.

In 1996 I tore the cartilage and ACL in my right knee playing basketball and eventually had it reconstructed in 2004. Then I re-injured that one pretty badly this September. Now those injuries were exogenous, BUT I am also having problems with my left knee - one that's never even been injured. It's often painful and once in a while slightly buckles. In fact, I really believe it's worse than the other one!

Recently I tried to step up my yoga. I was doing a hard 45 minutes every single day. But ten days into that, both of my knees were killing me - so I had to dial it back. In fact, every time in my life I have tried to STEP-UP my workouts - be they for golf, for basketball, running more, etc. my body has always pushed back on me. I always figured, and still do, that my body was just never cut out for hard core training.

Though that doesn't mean I am going to stop trying to improve my physical state. I tried many things, for many years, before I discovered the benefits of yoga on my achy back.

Here's what I'm going to try now - not barefoot running, but at least spending a whole lot more time without any footwear. Obviously, with homeschooling, blogging, and occasional trading, I'm a home-body. I traipse around most of my day in flip-flops. But no more. Now I'm giving this barefoot thing a try - though it is wintertime and I'm donning socks.

I want to see how my feet react to having no artificial support and no artificial cushioning. Perhaps whatever strengthening or conditioning occurs will filter up into my fragile knees? What exactly do I have to lose with this experiment? (Aside from blackened socks.)

It's not just those hippy foot nudists who descended on my blog - it seems like the yoga crowd is big into barefoot evangelism as well. In the magazine I now get, there are plenty of adds for *yoga sox* and much talk about separating toes - toes that are unnaturally crowded together in shoes.

I mean, it's hard not to see that shoes are a *bailout* for the feet - and like all bailouts, doomed to have serious side effects.

When I was 14 I went to a new school - a Catholic high school where I had to shed my Levis and sneakers for a jacket, tie, and dress shoes. For the first 6 months of my freshman year, my feet, particularly my ankles, were in serious pain. I believe it was because I had never really worn *low-cut* shoes before. For years I had been wearing high-top or high-cut basketball shoes - Kangaroos, the Converse Weapon, etc. And not only did I wear them, like a punk I rarely tied them. (No *fat laces* though!) Obviously, my choice of footwear seriously weakened my feet - though in time, and from wearing shoes with much less artificial ankle-support, my strength came back.

Of course, it's not easy changing a habit like this. I feel awkward, unstable, and *naked* without my flip-flops on around the house.

Paul Mitchell's feet

This is an issue for my wife as well. She's got some really bad feet. One foot in particular has always given her trouble - it has an incipient bunion. Consequently, she absolutely never wants to take her shoes off, even around the house. Mrs. C-Nut says that she just *can't* go unshod. She's seen an orthopedist who did what they always do - prescribe some arch stretches and some expensive inserts - but there has been no progress. Now he says she has *plantar fasciitis*.

But I've been telling her about those barefoot fanatics, she's been listening and receptive. So, while we won't be out there grocery shopping and jogging with naked feet like those bohemians, the C-Nut family is at least giving this no-shoe or less-shoes thing a test run.

App-less New 'Old Coots'

I've tried to educate myself a bit on those smartphone *apps*. I just read CNBC's Planet of the Apps; I looked at the Top 10 selling apps of 2009; and I even tested my apps knowledge ignorance on their little quiz...

But I still don't *get* apps. Beyond a phone, email, and the internet I just don't see what else I could possibly NEED.

Sure, others may *need* apps because they have nothing else going on - but I sure don't have time to spare. (Though that golf GPS app seems tempting!) Are modern day earthlings just addicted to gadgets or something? Are they wholly incapable of entertaining themselves? Can they not bear to be alone with their thoughts - OR, God forbid, be alone with THE PEOPLE THEY ARE PHYSICALLY WITH AT THE MOMENT?

What frustrates me here, is not so much all these Morons and their *cool* apps....it's that I can't for the life of me figure out the phenomenon.

Maybe my obtuseness on this front is strictly a function of me aging - of me rapidly approaching 'old coothoot'? Though I was carded at a bar two weeks ago, I will be a ripe 36 years young in three months' time.

In a sense, I feel like that typical fossil in the mid-nineties yammering, "Now what the heck would I ever want or need a cell phone for?!?!?!"

Hah! The *Moron Test* was the 10th best selling app of 2009. First it was Glenn Beck co-opting my schtick...

Of course, there is the real possibility that I am not too old and farty to *get* apps.

There a chance that this is some frivolous fad up there with acid washed jeans, jams, and middle parts with feathered hair...

From a different article, the pro-argument seems more palatable:

"Today's mobile phones are as powerful as many desktop PCs - more so, if you consider that they're also location-aware and have a built-in billing and payment system," said Lisa Allen, a board director of Mobile Monday Mid-Atlantic, the local chapter of a global group that aims to foster education and networking among the mobile-development crowd.

"We're seeing people run their entire lives, even their entire businesses, from their mobile phones," she said.

Fair enough.

Movie Skip - Pride And Glory

There was just too much crammed into this ridiculous plot. Don't waste your time with Pride and Glory.

Heck, it was so incredible, next to it that Sly Stallone flick - Cop Land - might seem like a real life documentary!

Psycho Landlord Update

So my plan of dangling dough, offering my landlord a (smaller) rent check in exchange for locking me into a favorable lease through the summer hasn't been going so well.

I haven't even really gotten to the *dangle* point yet and he's already blown his lid to a point of irretrievable stupidity.

He had the *sheriff* serve me with yet another *notice to quit* yesterday, i.e. he's started the process again for an eviction proceeding!

He insists there's still *no auction* scheduled for this house. Is he lying to my face, or does he have better information than I have? I asked for reassurance, I asked yet again to speak with his bank rep. On that point he still refused - *it's none of your business*. The person I contacted at the bank asserted yesterday that the auction was still scheduled, and will be announced any day now in the local paper.

This psycho took a real belligerent tack with me yesterday - banging on my door at 8am demanding my intention to move out *in writing*. But it's only March 2nd. What kind of delusional POS is this guy? He doesn't pay ANY of his bills, yet he's going to (try to) invoke the law to get me to pay him?

Recall he told me he's going to declare personal bankruptcy and yet still has some of my money. I'm just trying to get my own money back, trying to protect myself. What right-minded judge will take his side? And how much is the process going to cost him?

I uncharacteristically kept my cool the whole time, suffering insults, threats, and bald-faced lies. He said that I was *trying to manipulate* him. I withhold the retort that he's *trying to steal from me*.

I've known this clown for over 2.5 years. I've been fully aware how dumb he is. He's proving, without a shadow of doubt, that he's immune to reason - and that he's booked a one-way fare on the fast train to self-destruction.

I told him that this Friday, my wife and I would attempt a civil discussion with him. We have to wait until then because we won't be able to meet with our phantom lawyer until Thursday - that's the BS line I fed him anyway. We'll make this final attempt at *dangling* and rationalization. Should it fail, and it looks dead already, I'm going to declare all-out WAR on this guy. While the only thing he can possibly do to me is attempt eviction....there are about a dozen little tactics I can employ to make his life beyond miserable. Most people tell me to move on and move out. But that's precisely what the criminal Moron wants. I've thought about this long and hard....and come to the conclusion that I am morally obligated to stand up to this bully.

Incidentally, I met a plumber in town yesterday. I faintly remembered him doing some work on my house right when I moved in, in August of 2007.

This plumber and I talked a bit. He told me my landlord still owes him $500. (I'm serious - the scumbag owes everybody money!) While he admitted that he didn't really know my landlord at all, he said one thing that displayed spot-on insight:

Plumber - The guy truly believes the stream of bull$hit that comes out of his mouth.

Indeed. The biggest prevaricators, criminals, and psychopaths all do as well.

UPDATE - While I was typing this up....a UHaul truck just pulled into my driveway driven by my landlord and one of his jabronis! I guess they are going to remove some of their things from the storage facilities. If he's vacating this property, as would be suggested by this act, then perhaps he's not going to fight this foreclosure. Perhaps he's going to save his *personal bankruptcy filing* delay-tactic for when they attempt to foreclose on his residence? That would make more sense. But who really knows? Stay tuned. This is a real nail-biter now! I guess I should be Twittering it...

Making It Easier To....Text God!

Recall that a church spire used to legally define the highest point in a faithful community. See - Weed Worshippers.

But now, not only are sky-scrapers throwing shadows on churches....now one parish is attempting to pimp out its spire for rent!

Check that number...

The installation of cell phone antennas in church steeples is not unusual. Next door in Hingham, three churches in the downtown area have installed cell antennas in their steeples in recent years: First Baptist Church, Hingham Congregational Church and New North Church.

One For The Minister

From Charles Colson's book - The Faith:

The gentleman seated next to me greeted me with a blunt warning that he was an atheist. I looked at him for a moment - graying temples, a wise expression, handsomely attired - the very image of a community leader. I told him I was glad to sit next to him because "I've never really met an atheist."

As his eyebrows arched, I explained, "An atheist believes the existence of God can be disproved. So please, tell me how you've done that."

He looked momentarily uncomfortable. "Well, perhaps I should say I'm an agnostic."

"When did you give up studying about God?" I asked.

Now his neck began to redden. He admitted he'd really never tried.

"But an agnostic is one who says he doesn't think God can be known, and you can only be an agnostic if you've tried to know Him and exhausted the search." I'm not sure even now what made me so bold, but I added, "So I would say that while you appear to be a very educated person, you've made and unsupportable statement."

Not surprisingly, he was offended and rather quiet for the rest of the evening.

Some weeks later I received a copy of the editorial page of the state's largest newspaper. It turned out my dinner companion was the publisher. His lead editorial was an explanation of how my visit had affected his view of life, how religion was indeed an important element of all our lives and something we needed to pursue. What struck the publisher was that his own point of view proved unsupportable. (p36-37)

Though I went to a Catholic high school and have attended mass for most of my 35 years here on this overheated Earth....I really never studied religion, even my own, until very recently. (Recall last year I read the Bible cover-to-cover for the first time.)

Now everyone has to make their own path through life, but I submit that if someone wants to pontificate on religion, or irreligion, then they owe it to Mother Logic, and to themselves, to make of point of researching ALL OF THEM: Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, tree-worship, wealth-worship,...

Put them all side by side and dig up the classical arguments. Any faith that asserts the perch of *truth* ought to be unafraid of mere intellectual debate, no? And I'd take that a step further and say that such a claimant ought to actively pursue such dialogue. (Al Gore is an enthusiastic *debater*, right?)

Of course, no one is obligated to undertake such an endeavor. I'm just saying....that I, personally, would never like to be smacked down and Marginalized at a dinner like that. If one is going to assert to be something, they ought to at least have a dictionary-level understanding of the label.

Book Rec - Beyond The Mountain

I just procured and read a fabulous book - Beyond The Mountain - an autobiographical sketch by Steve House, the foremost *alpinist* of the day.

Despite the fact that this guy is an a$$hole, and that I have little to no interest in the reckless stupidity that is mountain climbing, this was a most compelling read. I took me less than a day to consume the entire 267 page book!

Here are some excerpts:

My boyhood friends turn detractors. They try to take me down with logic borrowed from their church of success. "What are you going to do when you're old and your knees are shot? Are you saving for retirement?" I laugh at them, the laugh of the cornered villain who knows his escape. I will succeed because I must. Their slings and arrows are excuses for their failure to commit to an unmapped future.

Their born-again indoctrination makes them blind to the benefits of process. I trade stock in the future for cash in hand. I equal their fervor in my admonitions that their notions of success are meaningless. I charge that they are motivated by expectations that are not their own; busy with empty dramas that belong only to them. (p63)

We return to camp and that night I prepare a last supper; rotelli pasta heavy with reindeer sausage and dehydrated tomatoes. For dessert I want to provide something bitter to go with the sweet mugs of cocoa. So I read out loud from Yukio Mishima's 'Sun and Steel':

"Pain, I came to feel, might well prove to the be the sole proof of the persistence of consciousness within the flesh, the sole physical expression of consciousness. As my body acquired muscle, and in turn strength, there was gradually born within me the tendency towards positive acceptance of pain, and my interest in physical suffering deepened."

Mishima committed seppuku, ritual suicide, the same year he wrote that. In two sentences he had described our need to climb without knowing the context. We were here to prove the existence of our consciousness.

At 25, when I wed Anne on a rainy November day, I believed true love to be self-sustaining. I don't understand why my thesis failed, but staring at 4,000 feet of black limestone reminds me that these mountains may be my solace and my curse. Purpose has its price, but it wasn't just the time apart; I've always needed that. In the last six months, I realized that with Anne I am no longer capable of the intimacy I seek. Our failure to communicate our needs to one another buried us under years of resentment and judgment. I know from climbing, that a deep connection between people is possible and that is what I want in a relationship. (p 196)

An hour before sunset, two exhausted men descend from the summit of Nanga Parbat. It should be deeply frightening to gaze over the Rupal Face at dusk - and it is. Perhaps nowhere on earth are you so far away from life. In the dark, fear and pain seem more appropriate. Home and love are just flickers of my imagination in the hollow darkness.

In that moment, I understand that on the outer edge of infinity lies nothingness, that in the instant I achieve my objective, and discover my true self, both are lost. (p 244)

I crave evidence of existence. Yukio Mishima wrote that although the core of the apple exists, you cannot see it from the outside. The only way to prove the core's existence is to cut the apple open. When the apple, or the body, bleeds, and dies the existence of the core is confirmed. I have cut open this metaphorical apple on a thousand climbs. I have seen beauty, have wept with joy; I have been astonished, and been horrified to the core.

Climbing is not an attempt to transcend gravity or death for it is these intractable forces that actually create the endeavors. Without gravity, climbing would not exist; without death, what matters life?

I take the lead as clouds rise from the valley. The rock climbing is over. We sprint for the top, simulclimbing ice until eventually we emerge from the north face onto the northeast ridge. I belay Vince in hovering cloud. We're in heaven: a land of mountains and ridges, sculpted by wind and snow, a paradise devoid of any souls but our own.

We lift ourselves on the heights, sometimes leaving bereft families in the wake. For what? They did not, cannot, live this indescribable experience.

Witnessing death is horrific. Does my panic stem from the loss of a friend or from the foreshadowing of my own demise? Or is my terror derived of Mishima's apple; his proof of existence? Facing mortality my actions carry weight, my words heft, my life meaning. (p 263)

Jeanne and I have been together for three years and we've had many ups and downs. I am willing, even driven, to take all the time and energy necessary to climb, but an unable, or unwilling, to dedicate the same to a partner or wife. It's convenient to cast aside love before a trip; I climb lighter without the tether of commitment. (p 264)

These stories are not fairy tales. They are the thoughts and actions of a fallible person and my very human partners. Do not mistakenly assume that these exalt courage, bravery, skill, or intelligence. Though these qualities bear some part, so do fear, inadequacy, and compromise. Within alpinism's narrow framework we seek transcendence and relentlessly pursue what remains hidden from us on flat ground: our true selves.

We should not be blamed for thinking our undertakings beautiful and grand, for they are. Meaning is born from struggle, and each of us has our own unique battle. My truths are not universal, which is one reason why they are so difficult to express. My ice axe may be your paint brush.

See? This guy doesn't write with much equivocation, now does he?

Again, notwithstanding the *prickness* of the author, one has to admire at least some aspects of him, and many aspects of this beautifully written book. I highly recommend this one.

But I say short this guy. He'll be dead within a few years for sure. In the middle of this book, it seemed like all his buddies died on mountains. If Steve House doesn't meet this same fate, he'll minimally spend his final years one miserable, lonely bastard!

(How did I discover this one? Well, two knuckleheads mentioned it in the comment section of one of my posts. I looked it up on Amazon and saw that it had a RARE five star rating.)

Mortgage Fraud - All The Way Up, And All The Way Down

Just a quick note on *short sales* which are picking up steam in the wake of this housing market implosion.

My real estate buddy in Naples informs me...

Here's what's going on. People who are underwater are getting contacted by *investors* who tell the homeowners that they can get a bid on their home for them within a month. What homeowner wouldn't be interested in that? A month later, they come up with a bid that's *significantly below market value*.

Then, they take that bid to the bank and the lender mysteriously approves the sale.

But there are a couple of issues/problems here:

1) The way some of these transactions are set up, the homeowners are not absolved of the mortgage debt. They are free of the house, but the lender is still owed money. Fine Print can be a bitch!

2) There's a serious conflict of interest inserting itself into these transactions. Supposedly, these *investors* have hired people directly from the loss mitigation units of the foreclosing banks. So these FNGs become liaisons between the investors and the lenders, though, mind you, employed by the *vulture* investors. What exactly does that mean?

Well, personal relationships between buyer and seller invite all sorts of payoffs and side deals. The example my buddy gave was a house being acquired by investors for 100k that had a clear market value today of 150k. Institutionalized bank stupidity is always a suspect, but I'd like to see the money/approval trail for that one.

As my buddy told me, it is near impossible for distressed homeborrowers to even get a phone call from the lender returned - never mind wresting a *loan mod* or executing a *short sale*. But these *insiders* - who are now ostensibly outsiders - already have all the connections and know-how to help make things happen.

Some people refer to this type of fraud/cronyism as the *revolving door between industry and government*.

The best example I have concerns lawyers and the SEC. All these young law school grads know the plan - work for the SEC for ten years at 80k....then after you've made all the important connections there, you're a shoe-in for a plush 400k job in the compliance department of some Wall Street concern.

Go Slow(ly) M O R O N S

My Moronic landlord hounded me today a bit for March rent - with text messages and whatnot. I ignored him until 5pm.

Then I told him strictly that *this was my last month*. In other words, I didn't tell him I was *moving out* or anything. See yesterday's post.

He paused, asked for my intentions *in writing*. I lied and said *sure*.

He probably has it in his empty head that he can rent this place out to someone else - or that he can move into it and invoke some type of homestead right to delay the inevitable foreclosure. Who knows what he's really thinking?

More than likely, he just trying to call what he thinks is a bluff on my part.

So I expect him to hound me for the next few days, asking for written notice. But why should I give him that when he still owes me about $1,100?

I plan on telling him very little, for as long as possible. I'm slow playing my hand right until the end as I did with my eviction proceeding.

Meanwhile, he owes the electric company $500 and they are threatening to literally *turn out the lights*...
