American Adoption = Receiving Stolen Goods

They say they secured their son, Lao Lu, with a padlock around his ankle because his four-year-old sister Ling was 'stolen' from them last month.

Child snatching is rife in China, where strict laws govern the size of families.

Hold up! People don't steal kids because family size is limited, Moron.

Here's the real story:

Chen said he could not afford to pay for childcare on his earnings of £4.50 a day and had refused offers of 'a lot of money' to give his son up for adoption.

"My wife cannot take care of him and I have to work to support my family. So I chain him to a pole when I have a fare.

"I don't even have a picture of my daughter to use for a missing-person poster. I cannot lose my son as well."

Hmmmm.....do y'all know anyone who'd pay *a lot of money* for a little Chinese girl?

I hate to break it to that guy, but his daughter IS NOT coming back.

However, in all likelihood she is doing fine. She's probably living in the NYC Metro area; she was probably sold for a cool 75k to some sterile couple who forfeited their youthful fertility for the lucre and ego of a *career*, or a *degree*.

I know it's probably wrong, but I assume the worst about every adopted Asian kid I see - particularly in the tony towns I spend most of my time in.

There are, of course, plenty of *non-white* Americans in need of adoption. But no, these still-selfish, would-be parents have to go on and subsidize kidnapping on another continent.

I submit that the padlocking *dad* most certainly IS NOT the a$$hole in this story.

If and when my wife and I adopt (she can't have any more kids), we both concur that we'll only look state-side.

She's likely in Thailand or the Philipines being prepped to be a child sex worker. This is naive, even for you, C! Or was this some kind of misinformed optimism about the nature of man?

Living in NYC with a rich, infertile leftie couple? If only she were so lucky!

I think you are overly cynical!

I don't know, maybe *the gov't limiting family size* is encouraging kidnapping in the sense that before, poor Chinamen would sell their OWN, extra daughters into slavery or whatnot.

Yeah, no, the family size thing has nothing to do with it. It's the poverty and, due in part to the poverty, the lack of resources people have to even resist people bent on kidnapping their kids. They might as well get paid if they can't stop them.

I don't know how it is in China but in Korea, the female children are not all that prized... maybe it's the same there, I don't know.

I would have to agree with Taylor. It is sad to say but she is probably a slave right now.

Admittedly, I don't know much about places like Manilla or the Third World $ex biz...

So I defer on these subjects to you two!
