Measuring Manhood

So a buddy is having his first child soon...

Of course he and his wife are having trouble, or at least taking their time picking out a name.

They don't know the baby's gender...

And it turns out the dad's gender is looking questionable too!

He said one of the complicating issues is that they aren't sure about the child's last name. So picking a first name....

WAIT A MINUTE. WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU AREN'T SURE ABOUT THE LAST NAME?

His wife didn't take his last name when they got married which is of course a manliness demerit (or ten) in and of itself.

But he has it in his head that when a wife doesn't take her husband's surname that it's logical/acceptable or whatever for the kid to bear Mom's last name!

I've never come across such a situation in my life. And even if I had,  it certainly wouldn't alter my staunch belief that giving a child Mom's last name constitutes THE PINNACLE of emasculation.

I told him, right away, that he was going on the blog for this. How could I possibly keep him off?

Yes indeed, this was the same Ivy-League educated guy who had no idea how to poop.

At a minimum, a revocation of a man license is in order. A few years ago, we had to do this to two colleagues -- one who had a dead car battery and opted to have it towed to the dealership instead of walking two blocks to the auto parts store and changing it himself, the other had Abba and Donna Summer CDs visible on his desk.

A more appropriate punishment would be derived from this classic "Married With Children" episode where Jerry Springer (playing "The Masculine Feminist") was tied up, gagged and an "OVULATES" sign placed around his neck.

But Captious, aren't you the self-admitted helpless one when it comes to easy fix-it jobs, like changing a car battery??
The revocation squad is going to pay you a visit ...

some men think its mature of them to not insist his wife take his last name, but thats how it gets started. They then say the kid(s) dont have to, too. Before you know, you will be holding her purse in shopping malls.
Femninism is just a loophole for bigger scheme down the road. Not a smart move.

There are some well tested human nature laws, you dont cross.

Like men trying working home taking of children, and the wife works.

OR, wife doesn't take husbands last name. Who is the "head" of household anyways.

Let me tell you something...

MEN should be taking care of children.

The moms are TOO SOFT.

At least the men should be playing a far more active role than they are today.

Even among homeschoolers too many dads do next-to-nothing.
