More Pro-Choice Morons

Recently I saw a bumper sticker here in Boston that read:

DBC - Dorchester By Choice

For y'all alien to Boston, Dorchester is *the hood*. It's got to be the most dangerous place in Massachusetts - BY FAR.

First of all, I don't believe the *choice* aspect. Granted, there are some really stupid people out there, but I'll bet in these cases, *choice* has been conflated with *price*. I know a guy who bought in an undesirable hood as well. He claimed to have wanted his kids to "grow up in the city" when really, that was what they could afford when they bought (at the peak of the market). Now that the kids are here, they are looking to *choose* to move out!

So, choosing to live in Dorchester (i.e. endangering you and your family's personal safety) when you can afford otherwise is Marginalizable enough all by itself. BUT, to brandish the DBC sticker on your car? That is profoundly Moronic.

One of my best teachers ever's favorite saying was "Don't DISPLAY your ignorance."

The next time I pull up alongside a car with this DBC sticker I will roll down my window and say, "Thank you so much for living in Dorchester. Hopefully you'll get stabbed and the world will be saddled with one less chauvinistic Moron!!!"

I'm open to other suggestions as well. There has to more than a couple *perfect retorts* out there.

Why again would anyone choose to send their kids to Dorchester High School?

By the way, I didn't imagine this DBC sticker. Read this.

I went to high school in Dahhht (dorchester), albeit, to BC High. However, I can tell you first-hand, that Daahhht is one tough place. Some of my friends from there have lost battles to drug addiction. The ones that lived are in the clink, presumably. Heck, my one close friend even got ran down by a drunk driver IN FRONT OF HIS OWN HOUSE. That was a tough one. Furthermore, my friend on Jew-ruesalem Road, made ALL of his money as a slum-lord in Dortchester. Man the things we'd see while trying to keep those places within code. I still have to find an update about the tenant who threw his baby of the 3rd floor balcony.

In short, for those who aren't familiar with Dortchester, it is a terrible beauty. If you're not Irish...an old school Irish at that, watch out. Not like Charlestown at all...

I've watched the video three times now and still haven't spotted any Irish, "old school" or otherwise.

Thank you for maintaining a traditional suburb-born-but-now-live-in-Boston "elitist" attitude, while the rest of us working class, nuclear families will live our quiet lives in Dorchester. Please keep spewing this uneducated bile about my neighborhood. It will keep the yuppies away.

Hah!

Born and raised by working class (teacher and social worker) nuclear family in the *tony* city of Worcester.

I hardly think *yuppies* are the problem in Dorchester.

Anon,

What can you say about the video I posted? Please *educate* us.

I think the video could be from anywhere. How do I know it is from Dorchester High (which it probably is) but what is your point? Have you been to a Worcester high school lately? Even Doherty can't keep their kids out of trouble. Fights happen everywhere, teenagers can be knuckleheads. And how does the video confirm that Dorchester is a bad place?

And there are "tony" parts of Worcester. Their kids go to Worc Acad, Holy Name and St. Johns.

Went to government school essentially in the projects of Worcester through 8th grade.

Then I went to Saint Johns and became an *elitist*... (tuition was $2,500 per year, then)

I still have no idea what your beef is. Yuppies? The lack of yuppies in Dorchester? Some muddled stereotype of *elitists*.

By the way, I drink domestic beer and like non-organic foods.

This blog is awesome. What is said is very true (although I believe Roxbury amybe a little worse). But I think the real issue is missed. Yes the people that put those stickers on their cars are absolute morons. But think about what the sticker is saying. Its saying that I am choosing to live in the slums. I am too good for this dump and to all my neighbors that grew up here, you have no choice but to live in this shithole. If someone was making fun of where I was from and saying that they are gracing it with there presence, I would slash their tires and kick the shit out of them.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Remember that quote from Good Will Hunting where Ben Affleck says:

***Look - you're my best friend, so don't take this the wrong way. In twenty years, if you're still livin' here, comin' over to my house to watch the Patriots games, still workin' construction, I'll fuckin' kill you. That's not a threat; now, that's a fact. I'll fuckin' kill you.***

???

And, yeah, Roxbury is pretty bad - so I hear. I'll leave the meticulous field research to others!

Dorchester is an amazing place to live. You obviously don't know what you are talking about and I would appreciate it if you got your facts straight. You may be confusing Dorchester with the real 'hood' which is Roxbury. My parents were both born and raised here and I have nothing bad to say about them at all. The people in my Dorchester are warm and welcoming. There is a deep sense of community amongst the people. Instead of spewing this filth on the internet you should go out to one of the many sporting events in the neighborhood and see for yourself the love and support found among the people. Dorchester is also a very historic community and I think my neighborhood deserves some respect for that reason alone.
And whoever said Dorchester is a slum, check your facts. I live in Dorchester. It's nothing like the slums of Inida and Africa. Please do not compare my home to the filth over there. Greatly appreciated. This article is trash. DBC!!!

not worth the read, this article is complete garbage. DBC- Dick by Choice

Anon,

Is the sporting event in the video I posted what you're talking about?

Been in Dorchester your whole life? Well, then you don't exactly have broad enough experiences to rate places to live, now do you?

Move to Hingham or something...

Anonymous said...

Not the same Anon but I would like to point out that Hingham is for pricks....the people that actually have DBC stickers are not the project hoppers as you see in the video, they are people that actually want to be here. So, instead of writing a blog about how much Dorchester sucks why don't you move out of Hingham and into a real neighborhood. And get your facts straight - according to actual statistics given by the BPD, Roxbury and Mattapan have far more violent crime ratings across the board

I heard it was all Dorchester kids *mobbing* at the beach this past Memorial Day weekend.
