Help, Please

Here's why the internet is so freakin' unbelievable. I was watching some golf clips on YouTube and I took notice of some guy who commented on another's swing. Clearly, this dude had an advanced knowledge of the golf swing. So I emailed him a video of me splitting the fairway and asked for his opinion. In particular, I asked how I could limit my left arm from bending during the swing. This was his rapid response:

From what i see from Face on....you got one hell of a swing. I wouldn't mess with it too much. The "faults" you have described (in my opinion) are idiosyncrasies...not really faults. With that being said, your left arm clearly bends because...
-your middle does not move correctly
-your lack of wrist set (leverage)
As a result, your left arm bends to create a secondary leverage source (energy). Therefore, your left arm has to bend to make the backswing feel powerful. This is a short answer.
Now...your wrists do not set properly because of your grip
-left hand
-palmy
-lack of pressure points
-lack of trigger finger
-Right hand
-lack of dish angle
-lack of pressure points
-lack of trigger finger.
Your middle does not wind properly because...
-your right hip is a bit high at address
-lack ground pressure (you could be flat footed) so there isn't much to wind against.
You see, there would be quite a few things you would have to do to remedy the bent left arm and still have your swing feel powerful. You have a great impact and deliver the club on a good angle so I wouldn't get caught up in in what you don't like about your swing....look at what you do right......there is a hell of a lot of good things going on there. Great job.

WOW!!!

Now I've been playing golf for 20+ years....but this kid gave me a decent analysis and alerted me to some aspects of my swing that I'd never really thought about before.

Professional advice all for the bargain price of ZERO....+ a sincere thank you.

Gotta love that deflationary juggernaut - the internet!

How much are you using it to enhance your life?

Sold my rentals in '06, went short equities in '07, started yet another business in '08 (hugely profitable) - all based on information pulled from the internet.

My entire work-from-home life would be impossible without the internet. Otherwise I would (still) be an office slave, constantly-on-the-road dead header who rarely saw his family, instead of an ocean front, rarely wears shoes, home office guy who gets to be Dad and a (sometimes) great husband.

Pedicures?

I hope so.

Dang Furyk, stay on the muni, let the GOLFERS play the real golf courses.

This is the funniest post that I have read in weeks, except for EDSBS's Party Dog post.

The only thing missing is the swing dude insulting your wife and kids.

2Dogs,

I don't know what you're talking about. The only thing I took away from his advice was:

....you got one hell of a swing. I wouldn't mess with it too much....look at what you do right......there is a hell of a lot of good things going on there. Great job.
WOW!!!
By the way, just set a new personal record at one of my courses last weekend. Shot a 79 despite two lost balls, bogeying the last two holes, and on freshly aerated greens. This course is the hardest I've ever played. A 79 there is like a 69 at a muni.

My best round ever is a one under 68 which I shot at a muni, in the club championship probably 10 years ago. Since then I'm probably become twice the player.

All of my curves, learning, golf playing,.... are sloping upward (not counting my brokerage account at the moment).

I have played two rounds this year, both less than stellar. During my round at Annandale, I felt certain that the ranger was going to come snatch me off the course to pay for the HOT TUBS I dug on the front nine.

I'm getting it a little heavy since I dropped to a 22 BMI. I think that I am going to have to cut the shafts a 1/2" since I don't have the stomach to clear anymore.

How many putts did you have on the pokey greens?

Only one three putt - which I'd do anyway, if not more. But should have made a couple more birdies, a couple more 1-putt pars, and perhaps chipped it closer with normal greens. Though I have no complaints. I wish they'd aerate every week!

I am not a big fan of the Chinese Checkers games.
