Obsessions Of Yore

Basketball has been my favorite sport since, well, when I was maybe 8 or 9 and my father MADE ME sign up for *Biddy Basketball*. Boy did I put up a fight, at first.

Play basketball, watch basketball, go to basketball camps, collect NBA Hoops, dream about basketball, attend games at every level, etc....I did it all. Even got the satellite dish for the NBA Ticket because, you know, I couldn't miss those precious Rick Pitino years for my Celtics!

And I used to know the first 7 players or so for the majority of relevant NCAA teams. *Big Monday* on ESPN was a staple of my Monday night TV; and I believe their was a *Big Wednesday* as well.

Anyway, life happens, priorities evolve.

I just realized the other day that I can't even name a SINGLE NCAA basketball play today!!!

WOW.

My life's focus has changed even more in the two-plus years since I penned - Evolving Monomania.

Have to revisit this post two years hence.

Of course, that's just as much an indictment of *malls*, no?

Obviously retailers are going to be in deep doo-doo because of reckless overexpansion and the sinking economy. Today I heard some geek manager at Chipotle brag about them opening a new store *ever other day*. Good luck to 'em!

I think when commodities turn up, that'll be the final nail in many retail coffins. Also, it'll KILL the restaurants.

14 years in the market....I must say I've never really touched retail names - except in the rare case they went vertical or something.

At this point, I think everything hinges on the stock market. Once it drops, the air will blow out of everything. Nine months without a single downtick has made waaaay too many consumers and businesses overly complacent.
